The integration of CSTV into CBS Sports has resulted in layoffs impacting about 40 employees.
The cuts at the company, which yesterday announced its rebranding as CBS College Sports Network, came across a number of disciplines, including programming, production, new media and sales, according to sources.
“With the staff actions completed today, the management team of CBS Sports has created a fully rebranded entity that includes the new CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV) and, with t
he full participation of CBS Interactive, a wide range of online activities that fit well with the successful CBSSports.com,” CBS Sports said in a statement. “We believe these changes at CBS College Sports will best position the new enterprise to fulfill its promise within the CBS Sports family of assets. Through the efforts of this proven team, and our ongoing commitment to the very highest standards of production, the CBS Sports businesses will continue to build on its success in all operations -- network television, cable, Internet and mobile programming.”
CSTV, which was acquired by CBS Corp. for $325 million in November 2005, was brought into CBS Sports last month. Oversight of CBS College Sports Network is now in the hands of Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports.
Tony Petitti, executive vice president and executive producer, CBS Sports, has succeeded CSTV founder Brian Bedol in running the company on a day-to-day basis.
