WCSN Taps Joost, FSN

Olympic-Sports-Oriented Network Expands Reach on TV, Web

Continuing to extend its reach, as well as expanding its content bank, World Championship Sports Network inked two more deals.

The first is with Internet television service Joost, which is still in limited beta-testing, to distribute content from the Olympic-sports-oriented network via the Web.

“This relationship with Joost not only significantly broadens our reach to a far greater and more diverse community of fans who are passionate about lifestyle and Olympic sports, but also continues to underscore our commitment in finding the best ways to reach audiences in today’s tech savvy age,” WCSN CEO Claude Ruibal said.

The second deal is with FSN, the International Federation of Swimming and USA Swimming to offer coverage of the 12^th FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

In addition to producing the event for TV and the Web -- to be aired March 26-April 1 -- WCSN is also launching several interactive features and promotions, including behind-the-scenes blogs from U.S. swimmers Tara Kirk, Cullen Jones and Kate Ziegler as they prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games.

“Via FSN’s 80 million homes and WCSN’s exclusive coverage and online reach, this is a great opportunity for fans to follow these world-class athletes in competitions that are typically among the Olympics’ most popular,” Ruibal said.

The two deals come on the heels of recent contracts with other distributors, including men’s online-entertainment channel Break.com, TheNewsRoom and multicaster Granite Broadcasting.

WCSN offers coverage of more than 60 disciplines via its Web site, as well as on its new 24-hour television channel, which launched March 1.
