Zander Touts Follow Me TV
Motorola to Market Technology That Connects DVRs to Mobile Phones

Chicago -- Motorola is developing a product that will soon allow pay TV customers to transfer videos from digital-video recorders to mobile phones and other wireless devices, CEO Ed Zander said Wednesday.
While Zander didn’t lay out a time frame for deployment of the mobile-video product, called Follow Me TV, Motorola already pitches cable operators hardware and software that allow digital-video customers to transfer videos from a DVR in the living room to other digital set-tops in a home.
The media-networking software comes from Ucentric, a company Motorola acquired in January 2005.
Zander said the Motorola service allows customers to pause a program on a DVR and access the program at the same frame from another room. When Motorola expands the technology to mobile phones, it would allow someone watching a program on a television to watch the end of the program after leaving the home on their mobile phone, he explained.
“Tomorrow is about wireless and broadband media platforms,” Zander said during a keynoted address at the NXTcomm convention here.
