NBCU Realignment Results In Formation of Online Women’s Network

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 3/3/2008 5:38:00 AM

Beth Comstock is returning to General Electric and her duties are being carved up into expanded roles for a number of executives at NBC Universal, which is also establishing a women’s online network.

Comstock, who had been serving as president, Integrated Media at NBCU, is now senior vice president and chief marketing officer for parent GE.

Jeff Gaspin, president and COO of the Universal Television Group, will take on interim responsibility for iVillage, the online destination for women, and oversight of a newly created virtual women’s network that will also include Bravo Media and Oxygen Media.

Deborah Fine, President of iVillage Properties, will report on an interim basis to Gaspin.

Elsewhere, NBCU expanded the roles of Salil Mehta, president, Business Operations, Strategy and Development, who now has oversight of the company’s Digital Media team. Mike Pilot, president, Sales and Marketing, will add executive responsibility for the company’s research department, including planning, development and analysis of all audience, program and marketing research, to his duties.

“I want to thank Beth for her enormous contributions to the company over the last two-plus years. She has a deep understanding of the opportunities presented by the digital revolution and was incredibly effective in guiding us through a huge shift in our company’s mindset,” said NBCU president and CEO Jeff Zucker in a statement. “Her efforts have begun to deliver real financial results and have set the stage for robust future growth. In her new role, all of GE’s businesses, including NBCU, will be able to reap the benefits of her expertise.”

Comstock had been a GE officer since 1998, when she was named the company’s vice president of corporate communications. She previously served as senior vice president of communications at NBC, and as vice president of NBC News communications. She joined NBC Universal in 2005, after serving as GE’s CMO.
