By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 1/25/2005 11:37:00 AM

General Communication Inc. sped up its high-speed-data service in Alaska’s capital city.

The operator said Tuesday that it has rolled out its “Xtreme” cable-modem services in Juneau, offering upstream speeds up to 4 megabits per second and downstream speeds up to 384 kilobits per second.

All of GCI’s cable-modem options include a minimum download speed of 1 mbps; e-mail-spam and anti-virus protection; four e-mail accounts; and increased disk space, the company said.

“With Alaska leading the nation in broadband access, our users have become increasingly more sophisticated in how they use the Internet," GCI Internet general manager Terry Nidiffer said in a prepared statement.

“Our new Xtreme cable-modem packages bundle value-added features that maximize their online experience with the fastest Internet-access speeds in Alaska,” Nidiffer added.
