Akimbo Adding MLB Fare

Akimbo Systems will add content from Major League Baseball to its Internet-based video-on-demand service prior to the league’s fall playoffs.

Akimbo will receive condensed versions of all games and a selection of MLB highlight clips. The service also will get rights to historical games and action from previous playoff and World Series games.

The condensed games will be available by 6 a.m. the next day, Akimbo founder and executive vice president of sales and marketing Steve Shannon said. MLB also carries condensed games on its Web site (mlb.mlb.com).

Subscribers can buy the Akimbo box for $199 and pay $10 per month for a programming package that includes content from A&E Network, BBC America, The Biography Channel, Cable News Network, Cartoon Network, TCM and Scripps Networks. MLB content will be on a separate tier, with pricing to be determined.
