Turner Taps GameTap

Turner Broadcasting System Inc. officially launched its GameTap broadband entertainment network Monday.
The network will launch with around 300 games from 24 publishers, as well as hours of original programming. Subscribers can download the Turner-developed software from GameTap’s Web site (www.gametap.com), and subscriptions cost $14.95 per month, Turner said.
GameTap also detailed its marketing campaign Monday.
The network’s “Expand Your Playground” campaign will include “a landmark combination of print, online and TV advertising; a widespread viral campaign; experiential opportunities; public relations; and quick bursts of original programming,” the programmer said in a prepared statement.
In other GameTap news, the network announced licensing agreements with seven new video-game publishers.
Electronic Arts Inc., Capcom U.S.A. Inc., Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., First Star Software Inc., DreamCatcher Interactive Inc., Knowledge Adventure Inc. and 3000AD Inc. have joined GameTap’s stable of publishers.
“Our goal is to create the ultimate gaming network -- a one-stop shop -- for everyone from the casual gamer to gaming experts,” GameTap general manager Stuart Snyder said in a prepared statement.
