Mets’ Net Gets Jets

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 11/2/2005 9:23:00 AM MT

SportsNet New York -- the fledgling sports service that will be home to Major League Baseball’s New York Mets in 2006 -- picked up a new team Wednesday.

Kicking off next April, SNY will become the exclusive off-season and in-season home to more than 230 hours of programming tackling the National Football League’s New York Jets.

Among the programs that will chronicle “Gang Green”: Jets Nation, a studio-based show starting with the NFL Draft and extending through the beginning of the preseason; Jets Playbook, a weekly analysis and preview show; and full encores of the club's exhibition games.

The three-year deal with the club also includes joint marketing programs, trading on SNY's multimedia platforms and studio location at 30 Rockefeller Center in Manhattan.

In addition, the Jets will provide the regional sports network with in-stadium signage, on-site promotional initiatives and various radio, print and online components. SNY will also become a presenting sponsor of New York Jets training camp.

Moreover, the agreement effectively prohibits Jets content from appearing on Madison Square Garden Network, which had carried Jets Journal for some 15 years until the past two seasons, according to an SNY spokesman.
