Moto Taps Entropic for MoCA Chip Sets

By Matt Stump -- Multichannel News, 3/22/2006 9:49:00 AM

Motorola Inc. will use Entropic Communications Inc.’s “c.LINK-270” chip sets in new set-tops that will allow consumers to ship programming through home networks at speeds up to 270 million bits per second.

Both companies are part of the Multimedia Over Coax Alliance (MoCA), a group of service providers and vendors that established standards to provide high-speed connectivity to ship bandwidth-intensive programming, like HDTV content, from set-top to set-top in the home.

Motorola said it will deploy the Entropic chip set in its new “QIP” set-tops, which Verizon Communications Inc. is deploying for its Verizon FiOS TV service.

Entropic said the chip set can also be used in modems, broadband gateways, routers, digital-video recorders and even digital TVs.

MoCA also announced four new alliance members: Tellabs Inc., Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., JDS Uniphase Corp. and Entrisphere Inc.
