VH1, Sundance Doing Drug

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 4/17/2006 12:36:00 PM

VH1, in association with Sundance Channel, produced a four-part original documentary series about the rise of illicit drug use and the cultural impact it has on this nation that will debut on both networks in June.

The Drug Years, spanning the 1950s to the present, will debut on VH1 June 12-15 before airing on Sundance June 16-19.

Using archival footage and interviews with actors, musicians, journalists, policy advocates, drug smugglers and drug-enforcement agents, the documentary series examines the development of the drug culture, its influences on music, film, TV and theater and its role in the political landscape over the past half-century.

The project comes from Hart Perry and Dana Heinz Perry, whose Perry Films Inc. produced Peabody Award-winning film John Hammond: From Bessie Smith to Bruce Springsteen. Two years ago, Perry Films produced five-part series And You Don’t Stop: 30 Years of Hip Hop for VH1.
