CNN: No Job Talks with Court TV

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 5/2/2006 4:57:00 PM

The New York Post’s Sunday suggestion that Court TV CEO Henry Schleiff might be in line to be president of CNN Headline News is “pure speculation,” according to Turner Broadcasting System Inc. senior vice president Shirley Powell.

Yes, Court TV is likely to be folded into Turner’s stable of cable networks, after Time Warner Inc. becomes its full owner in the not-too-distant future. Multichannel News reported last week that Time Warner “quite shortly” would take over Liberty Media Corp.’s stake in Court TV, in Schleiff’s estimation.

But “there’s no deal,” at this point, Powell said Monday. Beyond that, “no one’s even talked to Henry yet,” she added.

CNN president Jon Klein, for his part, was unfazed. “Henry’s a really well-respected showman,” he said, after the Post item ran. But, he added, “I’m not privy to discussions about his future or that of Court TV’s, for that matter.”

Would there be any roles around for Court TV executives at CNN? “I don’t think there are any jobs open at CNN right now,” Powell said.
