Optimum Voice Rings Up Int’l Flat Rate

Cablevision Systems Corp. is slashing the rates for international calls placed by Optimum Voice customers, rolling out a new $19.95 monthly tier that will allow subscribers to call any city in the world for one flat rate.
The MSO said it will offer 500 minutes of international calls to Optimum Voice customers who opt for the Optimum Voice World Call package. Additional blocks of 500 minutes can be purchased for $19.95 each.
Customers first must sign up for Cablevision’s $34.95 monthly Optimum Voice package to be eligible for the discounted international calls (Optimum Voice costs less if customers take the service as part of a digital-cable or high-speed-Internet bundle).
Optimum Voice already offers unlimited calls in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada for a flat monthly fee.
Cablevision’s move could help the company to boost its telephone-subscriber count, as rival Verizon Communications Inc. doesn’t offer a similar flat-rate plan for international calls.
