Sling Media Inc. began selling its “Slingbox” at retail outlets in the United Kingdom.
The box -- which lets cable and satellite subscribers access their home pay TV lineups from anywhere in the world via an Internet connection -- will sell for £179.99 ($337).
Sling also launched a public beta-test of software that will allow people with Microsoft Corp. “Windows Mobile” smart phones from Motorola Inc. and T-Mobile USA Inc. to access pay TV programming on their mobile phones.
And Stuart Collingwood joined Sling Media as vice president of Europe. Collingwood had been an advisor to pay TV providers, digital-media companies and technology start-ups on the launch of new digital platforms and technology.
