Comcast Corp. chief technology officer David Fellows will shift to a part-time executive-fellow role in January.
The MSO said it will begin the search for a new CTO immediately.
Fellows, who joined Comcast in 2002, had been AT&T Broadband’s CTO and had held similar posts with MediaOne Group Inc., Time Warner Cable’s Road Runner and Continental Cablevision Inc.
“I have been traveling four or five days a week for almost five years, and the time has come to transition into a new relationship with Comcast," Fellows said in a prepared statement.
"In this time, we have created a national IP [Internet-protocol] platform that enables all services to flow through our converged regional-area networks, connected by a common backbone, with a common provisioning system,” he added. “The foundation for the next few years of growth is laid.”
Comcast chief operating officer and Comcast Cable Communications Inc. president Steve Burke added, “Through Dave's leadership, Comcast has built one of the most sophisticated Internet Protocol technology platforms in the cable or communications industries. Dave has made a tremendous contribution to Comcast and has been an admired leader in the company and within the industry.”
