Verizon Communications cut a deal with Wal-Mart Stores that will allow the telco to sell its high-speed-Internet service at 549 of the retailer’s locations nationwide.
Under the agreement, Wal-Mart “Connection Center” employees at the 549 stores will help shoppers to use an automated ordering system that checks on their eligibility to receive Verizon Online digital-subscriber-line service.
Wal-Mart and Verizon didn’t disclose terms of the deal. But under similar arrangements, retailers usually receive a bounty fee for each new customer they sign up.
Verizon charges $17.99 monthly for its entry-level DSL service, which offers download speeds of 768 kilobits per second. For $34.99 monthly, subscribers can receive a connection of 3 megabits per second.
