ReplayTV to Sell DVR PC Software

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 6/28/2006 1:35:00 PM

Digital-recorder vendor ReplayTV said it will begin selling software that allows PC owners to store TV shows and movies on their computers in September.

The company plans to charge $99.95 for the software, which will be available for download at ReplayTV.com. After one year of service, customers will also have to pay $19.95 annually for the ReplayTV Electronic Program Guide.

ReplayTV also cut a deal to bundle the software with Happauge WinTV/PVR tuner cards sold in consumer electronics stores. Computer users need to install a tuner card in order for the software to work.

Founded in 1997, Cupertino, Calif.-based ReplayTV broke into the DVR business before rival TiVo, but has seen TiVo and generic cable DVRs from vendors such as Motorola and Scientific Atlanta dominate the sector.
