Cox to Offer TuTV VOD Films

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 7/10/2006 1:16:00 PM

TuTv will provide distributors with an on-demand package of 100 Spanish-language movies, with Cox Communications slated to be the first to offer the films, officials said Monday.

The programmer selected TVN Entertainment to provide encoding, asset-management and distribution services for its VOD offering, which will kick off in August.

TuTv offers a wide variety of high-quality digital programming ranging from contemporary and classic films to original lifestyle, music and related programming reflecting the interests and passions of Hispanic culture.

The films are being made available for the first time in the United States via video-on-demand, and they will be offered to TuTv affiliates without charge. At any given time, five movies will be available to subscribers.

TuTv distributes five channels in the Spanish-speaking media world: De Película, the No. 1 cable channel in Mexico; De Película Clásico, the only channel dedicated to classic films from the “Golden Era” of Mexican cinema; Telehit, original lifestyle and music programming targeting the youth audience; Ritmoson Latino, the biggest stars and the hottest music with a distinctly Latin flavor; and Bandamax, music and original programming focused exclusively on the No. 1 U.S. Hispanic music category, regional Mexican.

Comprised of a mix of classic and contemporary films, the VOD-movie package offers a wide variety of genres including comedy, drama, romance, science-fiction, Westerns, adventure and action films.

Talent featured includes today’s celebrities like Veronica Castro, Silvia Pinal and Ernesto Alonso; telenovela actors such as Humberto Zurita, Claudia Ramirez and Joaquin Cordero; and Golden Era icons like Dolores del Rio, Lucha Villa and Pedro Armendariz.
