Cablevision Systems cut a deal with NBC that will allow the cable distributor to sell on-demand versions of The Office, Law & Order and other NBC series for 95 cents apiece.
The companies are expected to announce the agreement Thursday morning.
Beginning immediately, Cablevision’s iO: Interactive Optimum customers can download Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Office the day after they premiere on NBC.
The 95-cent fee gives subscribers access to each program for 24 hours.
Beginning Oct. 3, episodes of Friday Night Lights will be added to the lineup, and Las Vegas will be added to the on-demand library Oct. 20.
Cablevision and NBC aren’t running any commercials during the VOD programs, although each program contains a brief NBC promo before the show begins.
Comcast recently announced an agreement with CBS to offer all of its digital-cable subscribers free on-demand repeats of Survivor and other CBS primetime shows, but the companies are including regular 30-second commercials during the programs.
