Gemstar-TV Guide Extends Philips IPG Deal

Gemstar-TV Guide International signed a new, multiyear licensing agreement with Philips Electronics, allowing the consumer-electronics maker to use Gemstar’s interactive program guide in TVs, digital-video recorders and retail set-top boxes designed for the European market.

The agreement also “modifies and extends” the terms under Philips’ existing technology-license agreement for Gemstar’s IPG in the United States, Europe and other regions where Gemstar’s technology becomes available outside of Japan.

Additional details of the agreement were not disclosed.
