Charter’s Hamilton Steps Down

By Staff -- Multichannel News, 12/31/2006 5:00:00 PM MT

St. Louis— Charter Communications’s top programming official will soon be leaving the cable operator, with two other executives assuming her tasks.

Executive vice president of programming Sue Ann Hamilton, who has served under three successive Charter CEOs, is departing the company on an unspecified date, according to media-relations manager Anita Lamont. The veteran programmer will be assisting the company through the transition period, she noted.

Hamilton, who lives in Denver, was not available for comment. She has three young children and had complained to friends about the strain of having to commute at times to St. Louis from her home. Under previous CEO Carl Vogel, Charter’s programming and marketing teams operated from Denver.

In establishing the company’s lineup and tiers of programming, Hamilton will be succeeded by former Adelphia Communications vice president of video management Cathy Fogler.

Fogler joined Charter earlier this year as vice president of video programming and product management, a title she will retain, Lamont said.

Fogler will be responsible for managing Charter’s video products, including its programming and tier lineups.

Another of Hamilton’s duties, handling licensing negotiations with programmers, falls to Greg Rigdon, senior vice president of business development, who is based here.

Fogler will certainly have her hands full: Charter said it plans to restructure its digital packages over the next 12-24 months, which will necessitate “making significant programming decisions.” Specific details were not disclosed.

While at Adelphia, Fogler instituted gold, silver and bronze pricing packages — a strategy she used at AT&T Broadband. Some programming executives expect her to deploy a similar system at Charter.
