Time Warner Opens Door to Home to the Future

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 1/10/2007 2:36:00 PM

Time Warner Cable is extending its welcome to the general public for its Home to the Future.

The four-story interactive installation built inside the Time Warner Center at New York's Columbus Circle will be open to the pubic for three weeks starting Jan. 17.

Time Warner Cable said the four-story structure will occupy about 45,000 cubic feet and weigh approximately 28,000 pounds; more than 7,500 square feet of digitally printed translucent scrim will wrap around the installation; and nearly one mile of cable will be used to wire the exhibit and its more than 50 Samsung LCD screens, as well as other televisions.

The exhibit -- conceived and constructed by designer Edwin Schlossberg of ESI Design – will showcase technologies including: video-on-demand; HD programming; digital-video recorders; interactive-TV polling through New York 1 News; Internet access via Road Runner High Speed Online; Digital Phone service; AOL Video; In2TV; TMZ; Time Inc.'s SI.com, People.com and Time.com; CNNMoney.com, CNN.com and CNN Pipeline; and Turner’s Cartoonnetwork.com, Veryfunnyads.com, NASCAR.com, NBA.com and GameTap.

“Home to the Future highlights Time Warner Cable's latest digital products and services in a most dramatic way inside the Time Warner Center, one of Manhattan's premier destinations,” Time Warner chairman and CEO Dick Parsons said in a prepared statement. “We also are pleased to showcase our industry leadership in other digital arenas with a variety of innovative initiatives from AOL, Time, Warner Bros., Turner Broadcasting and HBO, as well as Time Warner Cable.”

Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt added, “Our customers know that the future is available today through our popular cable bundle of digital video, voice and data services. The Home to the Future exhibition will enable all visitors to experience firsthand the consumer-focused products that have made Time Warner Cable a leader in the industry.”
