YouTube struck a deal with the National Basketball Association to create an NBA Channel on the viral-video Web site.
The channel contains short clips from NBA games, most running 30 seconds to two minutes in length. The videos feature memorable shots and plays, along with humorous on-court moments.
Similar to deals YouTube struck last year with CBS and NBC, terms of the agreement allow the NBA to order YouTube to remove clips with copyrighted content owned by the league that has been posted by YouTube users. If NBC chooses to leave the content on YouTube, it can share in the advertising revenue generated by the clips, YouTube said.
Google closed a deal to acquire YouTube for $1.65 billion in Google stock in November.
As part of the agreement to create an NBA channel on YouTube, Google and the league said they’re conducting a test to syndicate NBA video content across Google’s AdSense network.
Other Web publishers will receive syndicated clips of NBA action as part of the test, YouTube and the NBA said.
