Apple TV Slips to Mid-March

PC-to-TV Connection Device Debuted at Macworld

Apple will miss the February ship-date target it originally set for its PC-to-TV connection device, and the company now expects to deliver it in mid-March, a spokeswoman said Monday.

“Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March,” Apple spokeswoman Teresa Brewer said in an e-mailed statement. She declined to specify what delayed the ship date.

CEO Steve Jobs officially debuted Apple TV in January at the company’s annual Macworld confab. The $299 device is supposed to let users play iTunes movies, TV shows and music, as well as other digital-media files stored on a Mac or PC, on a TV.

The device will have a 40-gigabyte hard drive to store up to 50 hours of video, according to Apple. It connects to HDTV sets with support for up to 720p (progressive) resolution, and it can wirelessly stream content from up to five computers to a TV.
