Current TV Tops 50M Subs

Launches on U.K.’s BSkyB, Virgin Push Network Past Milestone

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 3/12/2007 11:15:00 AM

Current TV topped 50 million homes worldwide thanks to launches on the United Kingdom’s British Sky Broadcasting and Virgin Media.

The network -- co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt -- launched in August 2005 and has more than tripled its worldwide carriage since.

Current has U.S. carriage deals with cable MSOs Comcast and Time Warner Cable, as well as direct-broadcast satellite providers DirecTV and EchoStar Communications’ Dish Network.
