BigBand Networks said commercial deployments of its switched-digital-video equipment have now passed more than 5 million households in the United States.
The company said three of the top five U.S. cable operators selected its switched-broadcast solution, with two MSOs having already deployed the solution commercially.
BigBand didn’t name the MSOs in its announcement, but the company already announced that Cablevision Systems is using its switched-digital-video equipment to deliver iO International, a group of nine in-language packages priced at $4.95-$29.95 per month depending on content, the number of channels and an individual’s subscription service. The iO International packages are available to all of Cablevision's 2.3 million digital-cable subscribers.
Comcast, meanwhile, has said that it is currently conducting switched-video trials in two markets, with plans to deploy commercial services in the second half of 2007.
