By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 4/16/2007 11:41:00 AM MT

Microsoft IPTV Edition isn’t all Microsoft: The software giant named the new top technology suppliers behind its Internet-protocol-TV platform at NAB2007 in Las Vegas Monday.

The company’s new partners on Microsoft IPTV Edition are:

• Server processors: AMD and Intel are providing chip-set solutions and storage infrastructures.

• Encoding solutions: Thomson Grass Valley’s standard-definition encoders.

• Set-top boxes: Pirelli Broadband Solutions will provide set-tops based on single-chip technology, both standard-definition and HD, supporting features including local video recording, recorded-services playback, live-TV pause and time-shift recording.

• Servers and storage: Sun Microsystems’ Sun Fire X64 servers.

Other vendors already working with Microsoft include systems integrator and infrastructure provider Alcatel-Lucent; set-top-box manufacturers Cisco Systems’ Scientific Atlanta, Motorola, Philips and Tatung; chip manufacturers Sigma Design and STMicroelectronics; server-solution providers Hewlett-Packard and IBM; and encoder providers SA, Harmonic, Motorola and Tandberg Television.
