USA, Sci Fi, Bravo Grab 60 of Top 100 Primetime Spots

It’s been a strong four months for cable networks at NBC Universal -- so strong that shows on its entertainment networks have aired the majority of the top-100-rated shows among adults 25-54 thus far in 2007.
So said officials at NBC U, who, citing in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research data, claimed that shows running on USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and Bravo accounted for 60 of the top 100 primetime telecasts in basic cable through the end of April.
That top-100 list included numerous editions of sports entertainment WWE Raw (each individual hour represents one telecast) on USA; all six original premieres of the character network’s quirky detective series, Monk; all seven originals of USA’s Psych; the three telecasts of theatrical National Treasure on USA April 13-15; the Jan. 28 telecast of Sci Fi’s Battlestar Galactica; and all five original telecasts of Bravo's competition series, Top Chef.
Networks owned by Discovery Communications ranked second with 20 of the top 100 telecasts, according to NBC U officials.
The list, according to an NBC U spokesman, excluded sports and gauged results for Jan. 1-April 15 under a live-plus-seven-day measurement, while the period from April 16-29 was counted as live-plus-same-day results.
Moreover, company officials said NBC U entertainment cable networks accounted for the top four and six of the top 10 primetime series thus far this year -- given criteria that counted both original airings and encores; that the series must have aired more than five telecasts; and that the list excluded sports, acquired movies and specials.
To that latter point, Discovery Channel’s acclaimed natural-history event series, Planet Earth, was listed as a special under these guidelines.
WWE Raw, Psych, Monk and Battlestar Galactica claimed the top four spots, with USA’s Nashville Star and its telecasts of Law & Order: Criminal Intent ranking sixth and ninth, respectively.
