Olympic and World Cup skiing champion Jonny Moseley entered into a wide-ranging partnership with fledgling video-on-demand service The Ski Channel.
Moseley, who has also logged time as the host of MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge, will take an equity stake in the service, which is slated to bow on Time Warner Cable systems in the first quarter of 2008.
In addition, Moseley will serve as a spokesman for the service, while also providing an on-air presence in the way of an analyst and instructor. He will serve on The Ski Channel’s advisory board.
In Air It Out with Jonny Moseley (working title), he will interview some of the most influential athletes and industry experts in the snow-sports industry. The plan calls for Moseley to also star in an instructional series that will appear on The Ski Channel, as well as on DVD.
“Jonny is to skiing what Michael Jordan is to basketball or Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras are to tennis,” The Ski Channel founder and CEO Steve Bellamy said. “He is an icon in snow sports, an amazingly gifted on-air talent, an incredibly creative mind and a roll-up-your-sleeves type of guy who will add value to the channel on a daily basis across a broad array of disciplines. We know how to build big media vehicles, especially devoted to sports, and he knows the mountain world and can carry a television broadcast -- it’s a good fit.”
Bellamy is founder and president of Atonal Sports & Entertainment, which is leading the new network and cut the distribution deal with Time Warner Cable. He was a founder of The Tennis Channel and worked as its president for seven years.
