HBO Nets Nine TCA Nods

Showtime, ABC Family Also Receive Multiple Nominations

HBO was the cable industry’s leader among the Television Critics Association Award nominations announced Wednesday, notching nine nods.

Showtime and ABC Family were also among several cable networks garnering multiple nominations for the 23 annual TCA Awards, the winners of which will be announced July 21 in Beverly Hills, Calif.

HBO original seriesThe Wire and documentary seriesWhen the Levees Broke notched nominations in the Program of the Year category. Discovery Channel’sPlanet Earth also earned a nomination in that category.

Cable networks swept the children’s programming category, with Nickelodeon’sDora the Explorer andSpongeBob SquarePants; ABC Family’sKyle XY andLincoln Heights; and Disney Channel’sJohnny and the Sprites all earning nods.

Showtime’sDexter earned nods in both the Individual Achievement in Drama (for actor Michael C. Hall) and Outstanding New Program of the Year categories.

On the comedy side, Jon Stewart garnered a nomination in the Individual Achievement in Comedy category, while his show,The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, was among the nominees in the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy category.

The awards honor the best television programming during the 2006-07 season as selected by the TCA’s 200-plus member critics and journalists.
