C-COR to Pack In 1-GHz Edge QAMs

Vendor Expected to Announce CHP eQAM

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 6/10/2007 8:02:00 PM

C-COR is expected to announce the CHP eQAM, which the vendor claimed is the industry’s first 1-gigahertz edge-quadrature-amplitude-modulation device.

The eQAM module fits into C-COR's CHP Max5000 Headend Platform, allowing up to 120 QAM channels in a two-rack-unit chassis. The CHP eQAM also consumes 40% less power compared with other edge QAM devices, according to C-COR.

The company said lab trials of the CHP eQAM have been scheduled for July and August with two major North American MSOs. Initial commercial availability is set for September.

C-COR plans to demo the edge QAM devices next week at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers' Cable-Tec Expo conference.
