Tyler Perry’s House of Payne brought a smile to TBS executives as the premiere installments rang up record ratings. The June 6 series debut at 9 p.m. attracted a 5.2 million viewers and 3.5 national cable rating (3.32 million households) overall. It pulled in big numbers among adults 18-49 (2.72 million of those watchers), 25-54 (2.73 million) and 18-34 (1.17 million), according to Nielsen Media Research data. But the second episode at 9:30 p.m. that night quickly eclipsed those marks as the installment ranks as ad-supported cable’s top sitcom telecast of all time across the aforementioned metrics, according to TBS officials. A show of Nielsen scorecard reveals that the episode notched a 3.8 national cable rating (3.55 million households) and 5.82 million total viewers. On the demo front, the second Payne installment garnered 1.42 million adults 18-34, 3.06 million adults 18-49 and 2.99 million adults 25-54.
