CNN Partners with YouTube on Election

Web Surfers Can Submit Questions for Candidates Via YouTube

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 6/14/2007 4:44:00 AM

CNN struck a deal with top amateur video Web site YouTube that will allow Web surfers to submit questions ahead of upcoming presidential debates.

YouTube began accepting questions sent in by amateur Web surfers with their own video cameras Tuesday on its Web site

The Democratic-presidential-candidate debate July 23 is the first event that will feature questions sent in by YouTube users. The debate -- which will be moderated by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. -- will run from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. (EST) live on CNN.

CNN said network staffers will review questions sent in by YouTube users ahead of the debate. The network will also position some YouTube users in the audience at the Citadel.

The network and YouTube, which is owned by Internet-search giant Google, will also team up for the Republican presidential forum in Florida Sept. 17.

CNN said it also plans to simulcast the debates on several other platforms, including CNN.com, CNN International, CNN en Espanol, CNN Radio and CNN Airport Network.
