Operators Certified by Metro Ethernet Forum

Nods Go to Cablevision’s Optimum Lightpath, RCN, Time Warner Cable, NTL Telewest

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 6/20/2007 8:49:00 AM

The Metro Ethernet Forum certified services from Cablevision Systems’ Optimum Lightpath, RCN, Time Warner Cable and NTL Telewest for service quality and performance.

The cable operators are among the first 11 providers to be certified under the MEF 14 Certification, which defines a series of requirements and test procedures used to verify that the service delivered to the subscriber matches criteria specified as part of service-level agreements for Ethernet service.

The 11 providers that received MEF 14 certification are AT&T, COLT, Embarq, Neon, NTL Telewest, Optimum Lightpath, RCN, Swisscom, Time Warner, Verizon Communications and VSNL International. The certification testing and authorization was performed for MEF by Iometrix, an independent testing lab.

Earlier this week, Cable Television Laboratories announced that it would join the MEF, along with Comcast, Suddenlink Communications and Bright House Networks. Existing MEF cable-operator members were Cox Communications, NTL Telewest, Optimum Lightpath, RCN and Time Warner.

The MEF’s U.S. cable members now represent more than 75% of the cable footprint in the country, according to the MEF.
