Oxygen Seeking Funny Females

Women’s Cable Network Holding Create-a-Series Comedy Competition

By Christian Lewis -- Multichannel News, 6/26/2007 7:48:00 AM

Oxygen is soliciting entrants for its Create-a-Series Comedy Competition, in which one aspiring producer will get at shot at her own comedy series on the network’s broadband channel, shedidwhat.tv.

“This contest really has the potential to open doors for an aspiring female comedy creator, and we’re thrilled to see what untapped talent is out there just waiting to be discovered,” Oxygen senior vice president of marketing Cynthia Ashworth said in a prepared statement.

From now until Aug. 31, contestants may submit a three- to five-minute concept video, as well as a two-page treatment for their original series idea, online. The top five finalists will be flown to New York in October to pitch their series.

One winning series -- to be chosen by Dec. 15 by comedian and Saturday Night Live veteran Molly Shannon, among others -- will be given a $75,000 budget, a six-month broadband series (10-13 episodes ranging 3-5 minutes in length), an experienced show runner to help develop and produce and promotion on the Oxygen channel and Web site.
