Martin Misses TV-Violence Hearing

FCC Chairman’s Infant Son in Intensive Care

By Ted Hearn -- Multichannel News, 6/26/2007 12:33:00 PM

Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin Martin couldn’t testify on TV-violence issues before the Senate Commerce Committee Tuesday due to health problems of his infant son born June 20, according to Sen. John D. (Jay) Rockefeller.

“Chairman Kevin Martin could not be here today. He wanted to be here, he was planning to be here, but his several-day-old young son as of last night remains in intensive care, and so it is entirely understandable that he would not be here. So we wish he [sic] and Catherine and the little boy, William, all the best,” said Rockefeller, who conducted the hearing in place of chairman Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii).

Martin -- whose spokeswoman declined to provide further details about the baby’s condition -- was intended to be the lead witness to discuss the agency's April report that recommended ways Congress could regulate violent TV programming on broadcasting and cable.
