Live Earth Nears Kickoff on NBC U Networks
MTV to Broadcast Concert Internationally

Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis, which could be the biggest HDTV ever in the history of television, is set to kick off Saturday.
The concert will run on NBC and various networks owned by NBC Universal, including Bravo, Universal HD, Sundance Channel, CNBC, MSNBC, Telemundo and mun2.
Live Earth, which features nine concerts in seven continents, will use Intelsat to broadcast the event to an expected 2 billion viewers. Intelsat will use a network of satellite and terrestrial facilities to collect and distribute program feeds from the Live Earth concerts in standard-definition and HDTV.
MTV will also be involved in Live Earth by broadcasting live feeds of the event on its international channels. In the United States, content from the event will be available on MTV.com through MSN.com.
MTV also launched a Live Earth Web page, featuring content from MTV’s “Break the Addiction” campaign. The Live Earth page will feature daily video tips, 12 steps users can take to break their addiction to oil and overconsumption and ways to take action globally and locally.
The Live Earth event will feature more than 150 artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Smashing Pumpkins, Kanye West and The Police in New Jersey; Foo Fighters, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Black Eyed Peas in London; and other famous artists in Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, and South Africa.
NBC will air a three-hour primetime special with highlights from the day’s concerts hosted by Ann Curry and Carson Daly. Bravo will offer 18 hours of live coverage from the event starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 7, and culminating at 2 a.m. July 8.
Sundance Channel and Universal HD, which will carry the entire concert in HD, will run 22 hours worth of coverage.
