Beverly Hills, Calif. -- Preschool children will be able to try to acquire Mandarin-language skills through Ni Hao, Kai-lan, an animated series starring a five-year-old Chinese-American girl, Kai-lan, produced for Nick Jr.
The interactive series explores the relationships in an intergenerational family, offering preschoolers insight into culture and language.
As Dora the Explorer teaches viewers Spanish, this animated show will teach children Chinese terms, such as "ni hao," which means "hello."
Nick executives said at the Television Critics Association tour here that the series inspired the network to offer a 10-week course in Mandarin for its own employees.
