SOAPNet’s July 12 debut of original series General Hospital Night Shift set a network record in total viewers and within its target female demos.
The 13-episode series drew a record 1 million viewers, more than doubling the previous high of 406,000 set by the August 2006 third-season finale of I Want to Be a Soap Star.
Night Shift, an offshoot of ABC afternoon soap opera General Hospital, also set audience highs among women 18-34 (192,000) and 18-49 (498,000).
The show obliterated viewership in last year’s time period by 341% in total viewers (1 million vs. 236,000), by 482% in women 18-34 (192,000 vs. 33,000) and by 547% in women 18-49 (498,000 vs. 77,000), the network said.
