24 Channels in HiWire-SES Americom Mobile-TV Trial

Two Companies to Test Live Mobile-TV Programming in Las Vegas

By Jason Braff -- Multichannel News, 7/18/2007 10:31:00 AM

HiWire, the largest owner of 700-megahertz spectrum in the United States, and SES Americom announced their lineup of television content companies and channels for their upcoming consumer trials in Las Vegas.

The trials, which will feature the largest lineup of multicast mobile television ever tested with consumers, will have consumers test out HiWire’s digital-video broadband handheld system from their standard cellular phones while roaming the streets of Las Vegas.

Provided by SES Americom, Hiwire’s lineup will offer 24 channels of live programming including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, VH1, E! Entertainment Television and Fox News Channel.

"The HiWire-SES Americom joint mobile-TV trial is delivering three times the number of broadcast-quality television channels of any other U.S. mobile-TV system being utilized today," said Bill Squadron, president of SES Americom's IP PRIME division, in a prepared statement.

"By joining our impressive 24-channel lineup, this innovative group of programmers and networks will be able to learn right along with us when it comes to the consumer preferences and technical performance that the trial demonstrates," he added.
