RFD-TV Goes HD

Rural-Lifestyle Network to Launch HD Fed This Fall

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 7/26/2007 8:19:00 AM

Rural-lifestyle network RFD-TV will launch an HDTV service this fall.

RFD HD will offer programming on areas such as rural lifestyle, equine, agricultural and video auctions, as well as traditional music and entertainment.

“RFD HD is an ideal complement to the diverse and original programming delivered by RFD-TV,” chief operating officer Ed Frazier said in a prepared statement. “Our scenic-content and country-lifestyle features lend themselves to excellent HD presentations. RFD HD will be the perfect home for all video auctions to expand their broadcasts, as high-definition will only enhance the picture quality of the cattle, horses, or equipment being offered for sale, directly benefiting the buyers, sellers and viewing public. What could be more stunning than rural America in HD?”

RFD HD will officially launch in the fall on many of the same satellite and cable systems currently carrying RFD-TV, which now include DirecTV, EchoStar Communications’ Dish Network, Mediacom Communications, Charter Communications, Suddenlink Communications, Bresnan Communications and numerous National Cable Television Cooperative members.

Distribution for RFD HD will be uplinked via satellite from Northstar Studios in Nashville, Tenn., on Intelsat Galaxy 13, and the network is being packaged with other HDTV channels on a basic-digital tier.

RFD HD expects to add 55 new employees to support the daily operations of the new network. Programming will originate from the company’s existing broadcast headquarters and offices located at Northstar Studios in Nashville.

Rural Media Group holds a majority ownership interest and control in RFD-TV, which has distribution in 30 million homes, and RFD HD.
