Comcast this week began offering Pivot mobile-phone service in areas around Cape Ann in Massachusetts, expanding the availability of the Sprint Nextel-provided service in New England.
Pivot is now available in the Massachusetts towns of Gloucester, Manchester, Essex and Rockport, adding to Comcast’s recent launch of the service in more than 270 communities near Boston, stretching from Cape Cod to southern New Hampshire. The operator first launched trials of the wireless service in Boston and Portland, Ore., last fall.
Last week, Comcast broadened the availability of Pivot in its southwest Washington and Oregon markets.
In New England markets, Comcast’s Pivot delivers video news and weather updates from Boston’s NBC affiliate, WHDH-TV, in addition to other mobile TV channels. Multimedia plans cost an extra $15-$25 per month beyond regular subscription plans.
