HBO Cancels Surf Series John From Cincinnati

David Milch won’t be hanging 10 with John From Cincinnati anymore.
Home Box Office has canceled Milch’s show about adysfunctional surfing family in Imperial Beach, Calif. and the array of quirky figures, headed by the mysterious title character (Austin Nichols), intertwined with their lives.
During its 10-episode premieres, John, which Milch co-created with author Kem Nunn, averaged 1.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data. Cumed over the course of multiple weekly airings, the show attracted 3.9 million
John premiered on June 10 to 3.4 million viewers as the leadout from the series finale of The Sopranos.
Milch, the creator of the acclaimed HBO western drama Deadwood, is looking to extend his development deal that runs into 2008 with the premium TV leader
No word yet about the fate of fellow rookie series Flight of the Conchords, as the comedy about a pair of New Zealand musicians has picked up a solid following among young male viewers.
