Next FCC meeting: Sept. 11

Commission Faces Oct. 5 Deadline to Extend Cable Program Access Rules

By Ted Hearn -- Multichannel News, 8/22/2007 9:22:00 AM

Washington – The Federal Communications Commission plans to hold its next public meeting on Sept. 11, the first time in six years that the agency has done so on the same day as the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.

No meeting agenda has been released.

An FCC spokesman said he couldn’t be sure whether the meeting would be exclusively devoted to public safety matters in keeping with the tone of the day.

The FCC posted the Sept. 11 meeting date behind the front page of its Web site and didn’t issue a press release.

The FCC is facing an Oct. 5 deadline to extend the cable program access rules. Among other things, those rules require cable operators to sell their satellite-delivered networks to other pay-TV providers.
