Tennis Channel Serves Up Agassi Doc

Network Special Features Archival Footage, Interviews With Members Of Inner Court

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/29/2007 10:24:00 AM

Tennis Channel will celebrate the one-year anniversary of Andre Agassi’s retirement from the sport with a documentary, following the U.S. Open women’s finals and a day before the men’s Grand Slam championship match.

Shot in high-definition and culled from archival footage and a slew of recent interviews, Agassi: Between the Lines, which chronicles the evolution of the icon during a 21-year career, is set to premiere on Sept. 8 at 10 p.m. (ET).

Taken over the course of the past year since the eight-time Grand Slam winner’s exit from professional competition, the one-hour film features interviews with Agassi himself, tennis legends as Pete Sampras, Jim Courier and John McEnroe, commentators Bud Collins and Mary Carillo, coach Brad Gilbert, trainer Gil Reyes, tennis academy founder Nick Bollettieri and Sports Illustrated’s gary Smith, among others. Those original conversations are paired with footage and photographs of Agassi’s most memorable matches and off-the-court moments that delve into the highs and lows that helped define the man.

“This retrospective raises the standard for Tennis Channel specials, and represents a new level of production quality for our network,” said Victoria Quoss, executive vice president, programming and network strategy, in a statement. “Emphasis on the passions behind tennis personalities’ professional and personal being, produced with a high attention to detail, is the template now as we strive to create some of the best work anywhere in television.”
