Comcast put its brand on its newly acquired Houston cable operation in June, now it’s raising the rates for those new customers.
The company notified the community Aug. 31 that hikes, averaging 6.1%, will take effect with October’s bills. Comcast tied the rate hike to “increased value of services,” citing the launch of additional high definition programming, the installation of a network monitoring system and the addition of 200 employees.
The standard cable bill will increase from $44.99 to $47.99, a $3 increase. The most popular digital package, Digital Classic, will increase $5, to $60.99. The increases are offset somewhat by a 50% decrease in digital box rental fees. That charge will be $3.99 beginning in October.
No increases were announced for phone or high-speed data service.
