Comedy Central has elevated Michele Ganeless to president.
In her expanded role, Ganeless, who had been executive vice president and general manager of the Viacom service, will look to buttress Comedy Central’s brand and programming not only in the linear realm, but in the digital universe.
Ganeless was in her most recent position since 2004, when she rejoined Comedy Central from USA Network. During her days there, Ganeless was instrumental in the series launches of such USA staples as Monk and The Dead Zone.
Prior to her stint at USA, Ganeless worked in Comedy Central’s programming department since 1996 and was named senior vice president of that unit in January 2000. In that capacity, Ganeless was an architect of the programming strategy that drove five straight years of ratings growth, and instrumental in the launch of the network’s top programs, The Daily Show and South Park.
“I have worked with Michele Ganeless for over a decade, both here and at USA and she has provided great leadership for Comedy Central," said Doug Herzog, president, MTV Networks Entertainment Group, in a statement. "Michele has extraordinary credentials and experience in all aspects of television. Her passion for this network is evidenced by her long-time service here and she is an invaluable asset as we continue to build and solidify our business."
In her own statement, Ganeless noted: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead Comedy Central at such an exciting time. Our ratings have never been better and we have such an incredible foundation of original programming -- it gives us great momentum to create new and innovative content for all platforms."
