NASA Cuts Discovery Deal To Mark 50th Anniversary

Discovery Will Air Archival Footage in 2008

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 9/6/2007 8:42:00 AM

NASA is teaming up with Discovery Communications on a broad media partnership tied to the space agency’s 50th anniversary.

The deal, announced Wednesday at the New York premiere of In the Shadow of the Moon -- a film featuring crew members from NASA’s Apollo missions -- will encompass both on-air and online components.

NASA began operations on Oct. 1, 1958.

Discovery said programming in the spring and summer of 2008 will include archival footage that has never been seen before on TV. It will also produce Podcasts and interactive features on Discovery.com that will focus on NASA’s history and its plans for the future.
