HBO Wins 15 Emmy Awards

‘Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee’ Wins Five Emmys

By Linda Haugsted -- Multichannel News, 9/10/2007 3:06:00 AM

HBO topped the awards tally for Sept.8's Creative Emmy Awards tally with 15 honors, including a Governor's Award for the Addiction project and five awards for Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
The latter telefilm won the most awards for a single program at the ceremonies, followed by four Emmys for Discovery Channel's Planet Earth. That high-definition look at the globe was named the outstanding non-fiction series.

HBO's When the Levees Broke was also a multiple winner: a peer jury selected it for an Emmy for exceptional merit in non-fiction filmmaking. It's director, Spike Lee, also won, and it was honored for its editing.

The Academy also singled out a Nick News special by Linda Ellerbee, focusing on kids and autism, as worthy of an exceptional merit Emmy in non-fiction film-making. (Juried categories can have more than one winner).

AMC's foray into original film, the much nominated Broken Trail, won one Emmy Saturday night, for casting.
Emmy voters also liked Showtime's The Tudors, which earned awards for its costumes, main theme music; and HBO's Rome, which took home awards for hair styling, single-camera art direction and cinematography.

And Kathy Griffin may no longer be D-list; her reality series on Bravo was named the best reality program.
The Emmy tally: HBO, 15; NBC, 12; CBS, 9; Cartoon Network, 8 (including seven awards for personal achievement in animation categories, previously announced; Fox, 7; PBS, 6; ABC, Discovery Channel and Showtime, 4 each; Bravo, Nickelodeon and TNT, 2 each; ABCFamily.com, AMC, Comedy Central, Sci-Fi, Starz Kids & Family and USA Network, 1 each.

Awards in 29 more categories will be presented Sept. 16 during the televised portion of the Emmy Awards on Fox.
