New York – Cristina Saralegui, host and executive producer of Univision’s El Show de Cristina (The Cristina Show), will receive an award for her Outstanding Lifetime of Achievement, presented jointly by Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable, during the Fifth Annual Hispanic Television Summit in New York.

“We are thrilled to present this honor to Cristina,” Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable publisher Larry Dunn said in a release. “She is an outstanding individual who has contributed to the overall profile and profitability of Spanish-language television.”

Saralegui, a 30-year veteran journalist, sees her No. 1 role in television as a motivator for women and as a champion of a healthy, gracious and self-empowered lifestyle. After 12 Emmy Awards and nearly 4,000 shows, The Cristina Show is still one of the highest rated programs on Spanish-language television.

“This is really quite an honor and a pleasure for me, and I appreciate the acknowledgement of my colleagues in our industry,” Saralegui was quoted as saying upon hearing of the award. “It’s a great feeling. I know that I share this honor with the many people I have worked with through the years, notably those at Univision Networks.”

Saralegui and her husband, Marcos Avila, also founded the “Arriba la Vida/Up with Life Foundation,” a private foundation dedicated to AIDS awareness and education among Hispanics. In 2005, she received the Valor Award from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) in recognition of her pioneering efforts in educating her viewers on gay and lesbian issues, as well as AIDS awareness and education.

The Fifth Annual Hispanic Television Summit takes place at the Marriott Marquis Times Square Hotel in New York City on Oct. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
