CNBC Extends Kernen’s ‘Squawk Box’ Run

Cable Financial News Leader Signs Anchor To Multiyear Deal

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 9/17/2007 10:16:00 AM

Joe Kernen will continue to work the morning shift for CNBC.

The cable financial news leader signed Kernen, co-anchor of its signature morning program Squawk Box, to a multiyear contract extension. Terms of the renewal were not disclosed.

Kernen, co-hosts the “pre-market program,” which airs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. (ET),  with Becky Quick and Carl Quintanilla. Now in its 11th year, the show is the longest-running program on CNBC, which will face a new competitor when Fox Business Network debuts on Oct. 15.

“Joe is a key member of the CNBC team and I couldn't be happier that he'll be with the network into the next decade,” said CNBC president Mark Hoffman in a statement. “His smart, quick and in-depth market insight and his experience continue to equip our viewers with the news and information they need before the markets open.”

Noted Kernen in his own prepared comments: “I'm thrilled to continue my longstanding association with CNBC. I've been on Squawk Box since its beginning 11 years ago, and I don't want to go anywhere else. Business and commerce make the world go round, and business news is a bona fide growth engine for the media. I'm proud to be reporting such important stories.”
